Grief Awareness Week 2025

National Grief Awareness Week 2025 will take place from December 2nd to December 8th 2025. Organised by The Good Grief Trust, the theme this year is “Growing with Grief” and aims to normalise conversations about grief.

Grief affects everyone differently. There is no ‘right way’ to feel after losing a loved one, and grief can look very different from person to person.

Talking about grief can be really difficult, both for those who are grieving, and for those who are supporting them. Some people will find it helpful to talk, others may prefer more time to reflect. It’s important to know what support is out there however, so that you can call on it if you need it.

While talking to family and friends about your grief can be helpful, there may be times when you feel it would be easier to talk to someone who you don’t know. It can sometimes feel hard to talk about your own feelings if your family and friends are also grieving. There may also be things you would prefer not to share with them about how you are feeling. There are lots of different ways you can talk to someone confidentially. Talking to a counsellor or therapist is one way to create some space for your grief in a safe and contained way.

If you want to get involved with Grief Awareness Week, here are some ideas for activities you might be interested in:

  • Attend Grief Support Events: Look for local or online grief support events, workshops, and seminars. These can provide valuable information and a supportive community for those in need.
  • Offer a Listening Ear: Sometimes, the most significant support you can provide is to listen without judgment. Offer your time and empathy to someone who is grieving.
  • Volunteer or fundraise for Grief organisations or charities: Contribute to organisations dedicated to helping individuals cope with grief and loss.
