Dr Esther Tomlinson
Certified Play/Creative Arts Therapist, Certified Theraplay Practitioner
Esther Tomlinson is a BACP registered Play Therapist and works with children and young people in and throughout Cornwall. Esther has considerable experience, both as a qualified teacher and experienced Foster Carer herself. Esther specializes in working with vulnerable children who have suffered trauma, including neglect and abuse. She has seen the affects that trauma has on children in schools, but also those in care. Esther has been involved in parenting assessments, including providing reports to enable social services to assess parenting capacity. Esther thinks that early intervention is needed in order for children to thrive and to reach their potential. Esther offers children the opportunity to work through their problems, in a non-judgmental way and also through their natural medium of play.
Esther offers Play Therapy on an individual basis and specialises in working with children who have experienced developmental trauma. She has a particular interest in working with vulnerable families and uses Theraplay and principles of Dyadic Developmental Practice principles in her work with families. Esther specialises in providing a strong focus on attachment when providing family therapy and can also promote positive family experiences through the use of VIG. Esther has a unique and passionate love for creativity which stems from her life experience both as a musician and music teacher. Esther is naturally creative and nurturing in her approach and prides herself upon building a trusting and professional therapeutic relationship.
