Dr Heather Whitelaw

Clinical Psychologist

Heather began working with Psychology Associates in 2002 and has been practicing Clinical Psychology since 1996. She works from an outreach therapy room in Dartington, near Totnes. Heather’s previous posts have included working in the NHS learning disability service, teaching therapeutic skills at university level and providing primary care mental health services to GP practices in Cornwall. She is experienced in working with complex adult mental health needs and draws particularly upon therapeutic modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). She is both committed and passionate about easing the suffering that all individuals present with. One of her longstanding interests and areas of expertise is working with both individuals and groups to develop and maintain self-compassion and improved functioning even during significant life challenges. Heather also provides Compassionate Approaches, teaching on the Clinical Psychology Doctorate Programme, as well as Resilience and Compassion courses to a variety of healthcare professionals. Heather experiences the work as stimulating and enriching and feels privileged to be in this field of work. Heather is registered with the insurance companies Bupa and AXA.
